Contest to celebrate the Autumn Equinox!

*EDIT: The contest has now ended; thank you to all who entered! <3

The wait is over!

Fall is here and the Quiet City Etsy store will open later this week.

BUT FIRST, you can win a complete set of Quiet City postcards inspired by the music of matt pond PA by leaving a comment on this blog entry. In your comment just tell me what you like about fall, and you'll be entered in the contest. Enter before Wednesday, September 24 at 8 pm eastern time. I will use a random number generator on Wednesday after 8 pm to choose one winner. After the winner is selected, I will contact that person to let them know about the win.

If you do win, this is what you get:

Photobucket

One set of ten 4"x6"postcards: the front is glossy and has a thin white border- and the back is suitable for writing. The back has a small label centered at the top with artist info for Matt Pond and myself, and is otherwise blank. Each of the ten cards is different; all of the images can be found within this blog if you are new to Quiet City. The cards are prints made from my original drawn collage works.

The set is packaged with a 2" band of paper cut from an old Parents Magazine publication called The Mother's Encyclopedia, and sealed at the front with a little sticker bearing the Quiet City initials. It's suitable for gift-giving or keeping, and mailing or... you know, keeping.

Photobucket

Good luck to all of you! And make sure to check back regarding my store opening.

Oh and if you don't win this contest, there's still hope! Due to human error (my own with the paper cutter, dang it!) I have some postcards I will not be selling but giving away as well. The images are perfectly fine but the labels came out less than perfect. Those will be given out a few times over the next couple of weeks.

Other than my Quiet City work today I ushered in the new season this morning by eating anadama toast for breakfast and looking up a recipe so I can try to make some of my own bread. I usually buy it from this farm in a nearby town. I washed it down with a nice mug of warm apple cider from this orchard in Auburn. I would have loved to take a walk with my husband and son to take in the beautiful Maine fall sweetness, but my son is fighting off a nasty cold and I didn't want the cooler air sneaking up in his tiny little congested nose! There will be other walks.

I'll be gushing more about fall this week and next (and probably the following few that follow) with pictures and dreamy ramblings.

See what other artistic and crafty bloggers were up to in recognition of the equinox by visiting Lisa's Polka Dot Cottage blog.

xoxo Courtney

I love fall too, I love the crispness in the air and the deep shadows. Wearing hooded sweatshirts and being cuddly!

Beautiful work! Fall is my favorite season. It's the chill in the air, the cuddly warm sweaters, the warm baked goodies paired with hot drinks & fuzzy blankets. I love it all!

Fall is one of the best seasons here in hot Texas. I do miss the changing colors and beauty of a New England autumn, but we enjoyed the first day of fall on a friend's ranch. Just being able to spend more time outside.

Yay Courtney! I <3 your work. I'm in Dallas (as you know, nanner nanner!) and so we don't yet feel the effects of fall. We still wear tank tops and flip flops and we still smell that hot wet pavement smell after the rain which, we got a ton of as a result of the hurricane. So, no crispness here, no pretty leaves, no cool breezes and sounds of leaves rustling. Just a good 'ole Texas September.

I think the Texas September misses you and your postcards. No?

ps. I hope I win! *crosses fingers*

I love fall- but for aside from the leaf peeping- which we really don't do in Texas, and the changing weather- which really doesn't change until the winter months- I like the idea of a pumpkin patch- which I've never been to. Now in my head- in my imagination- a pumpkin patch is full of pumpkins- growing out of the ground- like in "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" and there are hay rides- but for adults only, and there's pumpkin beer- and there's knife throwing, and face painting, and pumpkin carving (If you have knives to throw- then you might as well use them for something else). Also- the State Fair of Texas- which I haven't been to in years, but I'm going this year, and I'm gonna hi-five Big Tex. EAT IT SUMMER!

Bossy loves raking. Well, maybe not -- but she loves drinking the hot-buttered-rum *after* raking.

I admit it - I had to google anadama bread :-) Sounds interesting - I love molasses. I may have to try making some. Corn meal and molasses sounds very "fall" to me!

I love fall so much because my husband loves fall. I also love the smell of crisp leaves and the abundance of apples. Apple pie, apple everything. Love your artwork.

Reading your post just made me feel good. Fall is my favorite season. And apple cider and homemade bread!?!? I am so jealous!!! I can't put into words why I love fall so much - it is just the feeling and mixture of memories I have when I am outside breathing in the air. I can't explain it!

Gosh. Autumn is the best time of year. It is filled with the excitement of the holiday season and the longing for summer days gone by. It is time to get snuggly in sweaters, sit closer to your husband on the couch, and an excuse to make a new dip for every football game. Yum!

Fall in Texas is a welcomed break from another brutal summer. Not quite a true fall as New Englanders are quick to point out but the nights become cooler. Air conditioning not so omnipresent. May be my favorite time of year. Light is different. Has an eerie quality to it. May sound weird but fall has a mystery that I don't think I ever thought about until now. Suppose it is the twilight of the year if the year is a lifespan.
A time for a welcomed change. I also think I look good in layered clothing.
